About Winnipeg Jets Tickets

The current NHL team in Winnipeg is the second franchise to use the “Jets” moniker. The original Winnipeg Jets played in the city from 1972 to 1996. After the 1995-96 season, the Jets relocated to Phoenix, leaving Winnipeg without an NHL team.

The Jets today were formerly the Atlanta Thrashers. The Thrashers joined the NHL as an expansion team and played their first season in 1999-2000. Although they had talented players like Dany Heatley, Ilya Kovalchuk, and Marian Hossa throughout their time in Atlanta, the Thrashers never had much success on the ice. They qualified for the playoffs once, in 2007, but were eliminated in the first round without winning a game. The team relocated to Winnipeg after the 2010-11 season.

The new Winnipeg Jets qualified for the playoffs for the first time in 2014 but were swept in the first round. In the following season, the Jets were not able to ride the momentum they’d built the year before and finished in 12th place in the Western Conference. The Jets capitalized on a bad season, however. They moved up in the draft lottery and earned the second overall pick in the 2016 draft, which they used to draft Patrik Laine. In just his second NHL season, Laine scored 44 goals during the regular season.
