Nassau Coliseum Tickets - History
Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum was built in 1972 and sits on sixty three acres formerly occupied by Mitchell Field, a former Army/Air Force base. After Nassau County acquired the land, several proposals were entertained for development but the ultimate decision was made to develop a multi-purpose sports and entertainment complex. The arena was built to the cost of 32 million dollars and was dedicated to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country; hence the name Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The arena was one of only two venues in the United States where Pink Floyd mounted their landmark 'The Wall' tour in February 1980. The arena has also hosted the National Hockey League All Star Game in 1983, the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament in 1982, 1994, and 2001, and the epic run of 4 straight Stanley Cup championships of the New York Islanders from the 1979-1980 season through the 1983-1984 season.
