High on Fire is a sludge and stoner metal trio formed in 1998 in Oakland, California, by guitarist/vocalist Matt Pike(formerly of Sleep), drummer Des Kensel and bassist George Rice. Known for their ferocious riff-heavy sound, they’ve drawn influence from Black Sabbath, Motörhead, and Celtic Frost. Over the years, the lineup shifted—Jeff Matz joined on bass, and Coady Willis (Big Business / Melvins) replaced Kensel on drums in 2021. The band won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2019 for their song “Electric Messiah.”

High on Fire's most recent release is Cometh the Storm, the band’s ninth studio album, released on April 19, 2024 via MNRK Heavy. Produced by Matt Pike and Kurt Ballou, and featuring Willis on drums, the album blends their signature sludge-metal core with Middle Eastern and Turkish folk motifs. Critics labeled it their most adventurous, genre-defying work to date.
