Staples Center Details
Opening in 1999, Staples Center is the home of several Los Angeles pro sports teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, Kings, and Sparks. The venue has witnessed championships across several leagues and teams, and has been the backdrop for some of the most prolific runs of success in American sports history.
Of course, no discussion of Staples Center is complete without remembering how that arena was the home of the Los Angeles Lakers during the height of the Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, and Phil Jackson era, which was one of the most successful teams in NBA history, thanks to their ability to score from all areas of the floor due to Bryant's versatility and O'Neal's physicality. The building played host to Kobe Bryant's 81 point game against the Toronto Raptors, one of the greatest single game performances in NBA history, with Wilt Chamberlain's 100 point game being the only scoring output to better it.
Staples Center has also witnessed multiple championship teams in the WNBA, with the Los Angeles Sparks hanging several championship banners through the years, with Lisa Leslie leading the first wave of success, and Candace Parker ushering in the next round. The LA Kings have also won the Stanley Cup since the birth of Staples Center.
In addition to the amazing athletic accomplishments that have taken place at Staples Center, the venue has played host to countless marquee events in the world of entertainment. Staples Center has regularly hosted The Grammys, has hosted the Democratic National Convention, and is a frequent host of WWE Summerslam, one of the biggest events on the professional wrestling calendar. These events are in addition to the countless concerts held at Staples Center, with the arena's location in Los Angeles making it an attractive destination for big name artists to perform there.
Where are the best places to sit at Staples Center?
Outside of the courtside seating, which is generally reserved for celebrities, as you would expect in Los Angeles, the 100 level seating is generally the best available seating at Staples Center. For more cost effective seating, though, the 300 level in the center of the court or in the corners are good options. While you are higher up than you would be in the lower levels, the 300s in the center and corners provide total vision of the court or ice without any obstructions, which makes for a great viewing experience.
Staples Center Tips and Tricks
Doors open at Staples Center about two hours before the start of basketball games held there. While players generally don't do much warming up until about a half hour before game time, getting there early will allow you to take in some pre-game shootaround action from younger players and other interesting elements of the gameday experience.
When entering Staples Center, there is an entrance at each corner of the building, so where you should enter the building depends on where your seats are located within the venue. No matter where you are seated, though, there is a relatively convenient entrance location.
Staples Center Club Areas
There are two main club seating areas at Staples Center, the Lexus Club and San Manuel Club. The Lexus Club is a members only area that has upscale dining options and multiple different genres of cuisine at buffet stations throughout the club, along with a full bar and televisions with live feeds of the games. The San Manuel Club consists of several table and lounge areas overlooking the floor at Staples Center, with access to a chef's table, beer, wine, and soda, along with the premium seating that comes with entry into the club.
