SeatGeek Launches Pano, An Immersive Venue Experience

SeatGeek’s new ticket-buying tool will give fans a true view from their seats before purchase

New York, NY - January 19, 2017: Ticketing and technology platform SeatGeek today announced the launch of Pano, an immersive stadium viewing experience. SeatGeek’s Pano tool is a new product feature that allows fans to digitally interact with and explore a venue, and to see exactly what the view from their seat will really look like before making a purchase.

SeatGeek has built Pano in partnership with the company’s first primary ticketing client, MLS team Sporting Kansas City. Features of Pano include fans’ ability to see the view of the SKC field at Children's Mercy Park from every section in the stadium, a full 360-degree view from each vantage point, and the ability to click around the venue to “fly over” to a different area of the venue and compare another view.

To build Pano, SeatGeek took high dynamic range photos from hundreds of locations around Children’s Mercy Park and used them to create a digital model of the venue, using technology that is commonly used in the robotics world. From those flat images, SeatGeek engineers wrote software that allows for an understanding of the depth of the images in a way that would truly represent each view and be most helpful to fans. Essentially, the SeatGeek team has created a three-dimensional world using photos of the stadium, which allows the user to easily navigate and compare views from all across the venue.

The result is a much more immersive, and more realistic, experience than you see anywhere else on the market.

"We're delighted with the Pano technology SeatGeek has provided us at Sporting Kansas City for 2017 and beyond,” said Gregg Allen, Vice President of Ticket Sales and Service for SKC. “First-time buyers will undoubtedly enjoy this very fan-centric element of the buying process, and help validate their purchase decision before attending the match."

SeatGeek was the first ticketing company to offer “View From Seat" images and has pioneered best-in-class interactive maps. Pano takes that focus on the best ticket-buying experience to the next level.

“Since starting SeatGeek, we’ve always been on a mission to use technology to make the process of finding and buying great tickets as easy as possible,” said Jack Groetzinger, CEO of SeatGeek. “Pano is a powerful tool that enables fans to truly experience what they’re buying before they purchase.”

SeatGeek rolled out its new primary ticketing platform, SeatGeek Open, in the summer of 2016. The platform is a radically different way of ticketing based on the concept of open distribution, and aims to allow ticket buying and selling to take place anywhere with no restrictions, including sites and apps across the web where sports and entertainment fans are already spending their time. The company plans to release additional venues under Pano for future SeatGeek Open clients.
