Super Bowl LVI: Top Matchups We Want to See

The NFC and AFC Championship weekend is almost here! We’ll see the San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Rams in the NFC championship game, and Cincinnati Bengals at Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC. On Sunday, January 30, 2022, we find out which teams clinch a Super Bowl LVI appearance, but before that, let’s take a look at possible matchups. Here are our top three matchps we’d like to see at this year’s Super Bowl LVI:

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Los Angeles Rams

Is this not the obvious first choice? These teams last played in 2018 with the Chiefs winning 54-51 — the highest scoring game in the history of “Monday Night Football.” It was also the first time an NFL team scored over 50 points and lost. Seems like these two make history every time they play each other, which is a perfect recipe for the Super Bowl. The Chiefs vs. Rams matchup is our highest chance at an equal back-and-forth, close scoring game — not to mention the talent from some of NFL’s best: Tyreek Hill, Cooper Kupp, Travis Kelce, Odell, Jalen Ramsey, and so on.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Los Angeles Rams

It would be nice to shake things up and see two teams in the big game who weren’t there last year. Of course, with both quarterbacks (Burrow and Stafford) as No. 1 overall selections, Bengals vs. Rams would be an exciting matchup. Everyone loves an underdog story and the Bengals have pretty low external expectations. Cincinnati currently holds an 8-6 advantage over LA, having played each other only 14 times total. Not to mention, Zac Taylor (Coach of the Bengals) was an assistant receivers coach with the Rams in 2017 and quarterbacks coach in 2018.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers

Who doesn’t love a rematch? Giving other teams a chance to cement their status as Super Bowl champions is refreshing, but we wouldn’t mind seeing a Chiefs and 49ers rematch. These two teams faced off in Super Bowl LIV, the last game before the COVID-19 pandemic when Kansas City won 31-20. This matchup would give Jimmy Garoppolo his second Super Bowl start in three years, while also giving the Chiefs a potential second win within three years. The drama is too good to pass up, right?

As a reminder, your favorite team doesn’t have to clinch the Super Bowl for you to enjoy the weekend! There are plenty of official Super Bowl parties for you to celebrate like Shaq’s Fun House Super Bowl Party, Bud Light Super Bowl Music Fest, and Maxim Super Bowl Party.
