Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Basketball Details
There’s plenty to do in Atlanta, but during the winter we’d definitely recommend a trip to McCamish Pavilion to see a Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets basketball game.
Basketball began as a club sport at Georgia Tech in 1906. One of its first hoops coaches was legendary football coach John Heisman, who ran the baseball team as well.
The school was a charter member of the Southeastern Conference in 1932, but later joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1978. Being in the Coastal Division has its benefits, as Tech fans get to see national powers Duke and North Carolina on a regular basis.
McCamish is an on-campus arena with a capacity of more than 8,000. Formerly known as Alexander Memorial Coliseum, it completed a renovation before the 2012-13 season.
Tech fans have seen some great teams at McCamish over the years, including Final Four participants in 1990 and 2004. The 1990 edition was coached by Bobby Cremins and featured the star trio of Kenny Anderson, Brian Oliver and Dennis Scott – also known at the time as Lethal Weapon 3. Scott was the ACC Player of the Year that season.
If you’re interested in a pregame meal on your way to McCamish, look no further than The Varsity. The legendary drive-in is less than a mile from the basketball arena, and is famous for its tasty chili dogs. Just say you want a hot dog – the chili and mustard are automatically added.
If you’re up for a dog and some high-level college basketball, get your Georgia Tech tickets now!
