Chris Young—born June 12, 1985, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee—developed a passion for singing early in life, influenced by his family’s musical roots (his grandfather performed on the Louisiana Hayride). As a teenager, he sang in church choirs, children's theater productions, and performed over 150 live shows annually while attending Middle Tennessee State University and Belmont—able to hone his stagecraft through extensive gigs. His big breakthrough came in 2006, when he auditioned for and won Season 4 of the reality series Nashville Star, which earned him a contract with RCA Nashville. Just five months later, he released his self‑titled debut album, introducing his warm baritone voice with singles like “Drinkin’ Me Lonely” and “You’re Gonna Love Me."
Chris’s sophomore album, The Man I Want to Be, arrived in 2009 and marked a turning point in his career with his first number‑one hit, “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song)”, which also became a Top 40 crossover hit and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. The album also produced additional hits such as the title track and a re‑released “Voices," both reaching number one on the country charts and helping Chris earn his first Gold certification for rapid success.
Over the ensuing years, Chris Young went on to score eleven number‑one hits on Billboard’s Hot Country or Country Airplay charts, including standout tracks like “Tomorrow,” “You,” “I’m Comin’ Over,” “Think of You” (featuring Cassadee Pope) and “Famous Friends” (featuring Kane Brown).
