Seger, Silver Bullet Band Hit the Road Again (11/21/14)
Bob Seger is 69-years-old and has long had a penchant for smoking. But Seger recently told the world he's cutting back on the nicotine, bicycles 10 miles a day as part of a new workout routine and – here's the best part for fans – is hitting the road again.
It's been a busy couple of months for the near-Septuagenarian, who has not only finalized plans for a 25-city tour that begins next month, he's also busy promoting "Ride Out," his brand new album (and first since 2006), which recently earned the number three spot on the Billboard 200, the highest of his career (matching the No. 3 showing of 1986's "Like a Rock" and besting the No. 4 debut of 2006's "Face the Promise").
"Well it's just great to be able to do it, you know, because I love doing it," Seger recently said on "CBS This Morning." "And consequently, the success allows me to keep doing it, and that's just really gratifying."
Seger (along with his Silver Bullet Band) began the aforementioned tour on November 19 in Saginaw, Michigan at Wendler Arena and will continue straight into 2015. The North American tour will hit all the major markets – Boston, Chicago, New York, Atlanta and Tampa just to name a few – before wrapping in Los Angeles, California on February 27th. It will be his most extensive effort on the road since 2006-07's Face The Promise Tour and will also cross north of the border and into Canada. Appearing on select dates will be special guest The J. Geils Band.
Seger isn't saying yet whether he'll continue his tour beyond the planned dates, though he says he will definitely continue creating new music: "I just take it tour by tour," he recently told The Journal Times (in Wisconsin).
If you've got your Bob Seger tickets, rest assured that the iconic rocker and the Silver Bullet Band will be playing a mix of staples at every show, including "Night Moves," "Turn the Page" and "Mainstreet," along with several songs off the new album.
Seger will also appear on the November 28th episode of "CMT Crossroads," alongside superstar Jason Aldean. The show pairs country acts with musicians from other genres in a mix-and-match format.
About Bob Seger
Bob Seger has been writing and recording rock n' roll music since 1961. The 67-year-old musician is credited for tunes such as "Night Moves," "Like a Rock" and "Old Time Rock and Roll," and in 2004 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for all of his accomplishments. While Seger's solo career is surely impressive, the music he recorded during his period with the Silver Bullet Band is nothing to sneer at.
Seger formed his Silver Bullet Band in 1974, featuring guitarist Drew Abbott, drummer and backup singer Charlie Allen Martin, keyboard player Rick Mannassa, bassist Chris Campbell, and saxophone player Alto Reed. With said musicians at the helm, Seger released the album "Seven" which featured the song "Get Out of Denver." The following year, the band released the album "Beautiful Loser," which had on it one of Seger's biggest hits to-date: "Katmandu." But it wasn't until the Silver Bullet Band's 1976 live album, "Live Bullet," was Seger skyrocketed to icon status. The record is often referred to as one of the best live albums of all time, and its success led to Seger being able to headline more gigs and get more airplay on radio stations. Now, over 30 years later, and the band is still producing amazing live performances: just last March, they reunited to play to a crowd of over 13,000 at the Michigan Saddledome.
