About Dead Can Dance
The Dead Can Dance. Just ask the members of the group who have combined elements of European folk music with pop and worldbeat. They're the type of songs that would get anyone moving, and have come to define a sound that has carried on since the early 1980s.
Seriously – what do you get when you fuse everything from Afrian polyrhythms and Gaelic folk to Gregorian chants and Middle Eastern mantras? You get what has made the sound of Dead Can Dance so infectious and compelling, and what has kept guitarist Brendan Perry and vocalist Lisa Gerrard at the helm of an otherwise revolving door of members. (The original lineup also included Paul Erikson and Simon Monroe, but that lasted just a year).
The Dead Can Dance officially has eight studio albums to its name. Among them, 1990's "Aion" was credited for pushing the band into the U.S. for the first time, where its tour earned rave reviews. 1991's "A Passage in Time" became the first official American release of Dead Can Dance music, though 1993's "Labyrinth" was actually the first studio album to receive that credit.
Having disbanded in 1998, Dead Can Dance reunited briefly in 2005 for a world tour and later reformed again in 2011 while releasing the new album "Anastasis." The final show of that tour took place in Santiago, Chile on July 13, 2013. And now that the tour is over, Perry anticipates another Dead Can Dance studio album will come together in the very near future.
