About Dolly Parton Tickets

Dolly Parton is one of the most iconic and influential figures in American music, known for her distinctive voice, songwriting talent and larger-than-life personality. Born in a one-room cabin in rural Tennessee in 1946, she was one of twelve children raised in a poor but close-knit family. Music was a central part of her upbringing—she began singing in church and on local radio shows at a young age. By the time she was a teenager, she had moved to Nashville, where she quickly made a name for herself as a gifted songwriter, penning hits for other artists before launching her own solo career.

Parton's big break came in the late 1960s when she joined The Porter Wagoner Show, a popular television program that introduced her to a national audience. Her partnership with Wagoner led to a string of successful duets and helped her transition into mainstream country music. In 1974, she left the show to focus on her solo career and released “Jolene,” one of her signature songs. That same year, she also wrote “I Will Always Love You,” which later became a global sensation when Whitney Houston covered it in 1992. These early hits solidified Parton’s reputation as a powerful vocalist and storyteller.

Throughout the 1980s and beyond, Parton became a cultural force far beyond country music. She crossed over into pop with hits like “9 to 5,” which was also the theme song for the hit film in which she starred. Her success on the screen included roles in films such as Steel Magnolias and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, earning her a reputation as a multi-talented entertainer. She also launched Dollywood, a theme park in Tennessee that celebrates Appalachian culture and draws millions of visitors each year.

Dolly Parton’s career has spanned more than six decades and includes countless accolades—over 100 million records sold, 11 Grammy Awards, and induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Beyond her artistic achievements, she’s beloved for her philanthropy, particularly her work in childhood literacy through the Imagination Library, which has donated over 200 million books to children around the world. With her unmatched blend of talent, heart and charisma, Dolly Parton remains a beloved and enduring figure in American culture.

Dolly Parton is also godmother to Miley Cyrus, whom she has collaborated with many times. Dolly has long served as a mentor to Miley, supporting her through different eras of her career. They've performed together several times, most notably singing “Jolene” live. Dolly also appeared as “Aunt Dolly” on Hannah Montana, the Disney Channel show that launched Miley to fame. In 2022, they co-hosted NBC’s New Year’s Eve special, showcasing their strong chemistry and multi-generational appeal.
