About The Three O'Clock
Three O'Clock stages first live show in 28 years (Created July 18, 2013)
These days, they look more like stockbrokers and invest bankers than alternative rockers. But Michael Quercio, Danny Benair and Louis Gutierrez, three original members of the Los Angeles-based quartet the Three O'Clock, were recently on stage together for their first live show in 28 years.
Yes, it's true that members of Three O'Clock were practically boy band heartthrobs back in the day, but along with Adam Merrin, they've traded in ripped jeans and t-shirts for button-downs and khakis. Except for when it comes to shows at events like Coachella, where the guys played to a capacity main room back in April – a show that was preceded by a scooter rally just like the ones that used to appear at their shows.
The band's revival came about as the result of a chance encounter with Coachella founder Paul Tollett at a music store in Long Beach in the summer of 2012. A few calls to the band's former manager, and he extended the chance for Three O'Clock to reunite at the now world-renowned Music and Arts Festival that takes place every spring at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Just like that, Three O'Clock was coming out of retirement.
Considered pioneers of the L.A. "Paisley Underground" scene of the mid-'80s, Three O'Clock inspired bands like the Bangles and Stone Roses, and had a fan in Prince (who named his first record label Paisley Park and signed Three O'Clock as his first act). It allowed the band to produce a number of memorable records, including 1983's "Sixteen Tambourines," before their popularity waned.
That the band is back together is something none of its members are taking for granted. They've even released a brand-new compilation album for the summer called "Hidden World Revealed," which features 10 previously unreleased tracks. They also have no idea what the future holds otherwise, but until then they'll enjoy their rediscovered new-found fame. After all, it's Three O'Clock somewhere.
