Marco Antonio Solis, born on December 29, 1959, in Ario de Rosales, Michoacán, Mexico, began his musical journey remarkably early—performing with his cousin as part of Los Hermanitos Solís at just six years old. In the mid-1970s, he co-founded the legendary group Los Bukis, serving as lead singer, principal songwriter, and guitarist. With the band, Solis helped pioneer the grupero genre—a fusion of cumbia, norteño and banda—scoring massive hits like “Tu Cárcel” and “Mi Fantasía,” and achieving record-breaking sales across Mexico, Latin America and the U.S.
After nearly two decades with Los Bukis, Solis transitioned to a solo career, releasing his debut album En Pleno Vuelo in 1996, which reached gold status in the U.S. His solo work, including critically acclaimed albums like Trozos de Mi Alma (1999) and Gracias Por Estar Aquí (2013), spawned numerous chart-topping hits—such as “Si No Te Hubieras Ido,” “O Me Voy o Te Vas” and “De Mil Amores”—cementing his status as a formidable solo artist.
Marco Antonio Solis's influence and artistry have earned significant recognition: five Latin Grammy Awards, multiple Lo Nuestro and Billboard Latin Music accolades, induction into the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame in 2000 and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010. Beyond commercial success and awards, Solís has extended his creativity by producing, songwriting for other artists and even lending his voice for the Spanish version of Disney/Pixar’s Coco.
