Acclaimed Sondheim musical Sweeny Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street centers on Benjamin Barker, who returns to London after being falsely accused and transported. When he learns that his wife poisoned herself after being raped by Judge Turpin, the very judge of transported him, he vows bloody revenge. The original Broadway production opened at the Uris Theatre in 1979 and ran for 557 performances. It was directed by Harold Prince with staging by Larry Fuller. This exciting musical thriller has since then attracted various talented performers such as Alan Rickman, who played Judge Turpin in the screen adaptation, Johnny Depp, Len Cario and Angela Lansbury.
