Founded in 2014, GOT7 is a South Korean boy band that has taken the world by storm. Made up of seven members, this talented k-pop group includes Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, JB, and Yugyeom. All children of the 90s, these young men have come together to release hit after hit.
The members were scouted and brought together by JYP Entertainment, a large entertainment firm founded by Park Jin-young and based in South Korea. According to Jin-young, the name “GOT7” actually came from another k-pop group called “g.o.d.” Park had originally planned on using the name “GOT6” for that group.
In 2014, GOT7 released their first EP, “Got It?”, which quickly became the #1 album on Billboard's World Albums Chart. Shortly after, the boy band signed a contract with Japan's Sony Music Entertainment. Less than a year later, GOT7 held their first tour in Japan– and would soon be touring all over the globe.
Since their rise to fame, GOT7 has raked in a number of awards. In January of 2019, the band was awarded the “New Artist Award” at both the 29th Golden Disc Awards and the 24th Seoul Music Awards. The band also took home the “Best Worldwide Act” award at the 2016 MTV Europe Music Awards. Not only do these band members have an influence on the music industry, these seven young men are quite the style icons as well. In 2015, GOT7 was named the Asia Style Best Influence Group at the Fashion Power Awards.
