Les Misérables is the classic story of redemption about a former prisoner, Jean Valjean, caught up in the middle of the 19th Century French Revolution. It blends the despair of politics and passion for life in a cast of inspiring characters testing their will for love in the midst of turmoil. For nearly forty years, Les Mis has captivated audiences around the world with its stunning stage production, award-winning songbook, and touching performances by the top names in musical theater. The face of Les Mis is the character of the young girl Cosette which is superimposed on a French flag inspired by the drawing by Émile Bayad. This iconic image has been the emblem for the musical since its start.
Les Misérables is a multi award-winning play that has received eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, three Laurence Olivier Awards for its London productions including Best Actress in a Musical for stage icon Patti Lupone, and five Helpmann Awards (Australia’s version of the Tony awards) including Best Musical. Les Misérables continues to be recognized with awards and accolades with each revival production.
