Luke James weighs his "Options"
Grammy-nominated crooner Luke James is heating up radio with his brand new single "Options" featuring Rick Ross. It's the newest track from Luke's long-awaited, self-titled debut album that will be available to (some very eager) fans on September 23, 2014.
"Options" opens with some cinematic piano keys in its beginning moments, then segues into booming drums and a volume that escalates to deafening levels. James' vocals and a verse from Ross level it out, and the track becomes a more vocal-driven ballad telling the story where a couple has the "options" to either make the relationship work or go their separate ways.
"I'm a man of simple knowledge/ She's a woman that's prone to violence," sings Luke as the piano yields to a thumping beat. "It used to something beautiful, red flags regardless/ And love used to be our vehicle/ But now there's too much mileage."
There's no doubt that James is helping to put traditional R&B back on the map, joining a host of A-list artists like Usher and Ne-Yo while still gearing up to release his first full studio album. If you didn't catch him last year crisscrossing Europe and North America as the opening act for Beyonce's Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, you'll undoubtedly find him back in the spotlight this year … perhaps as a headliner.
New Orleans native has plenty of soul (Created August 16, 2013)
When someone uses the word "soulful" to describe an R&B artist, the name Usher comes to mind more often than not. But there's a new face on the scene, and Luke James is doing everything he can to make sure you don't forget it.
Who is James, exactly? If you ask people who know him, they're likely to describe him as "organic," "contemporary" and "fresh." And truth is, the New Orleans native is fine with all those descriptors (and more), as he's amassed quite the resume in the last few years, beginning as a background singer for Tyrese and eventually penning songs for the likes of Justin Bieber and Chris Brown.
Of course, a musical upbringing is often a factor for more passionate artists, and James is no exception. He grew up listening to Marvin Gaye and Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes, along with Willie Nelson and Alabama. But it was an amateur talent segment on TV's "Showtime at the Apollo" that captured the imagination of an 11-year-old James and set him on a path to musical stardom.
Back in 2011, James went from crafting songs for other artists to focusing on his solo career. He released his debuted extended EP "Luke," had his first single receive universal acclaim from critics, and earned a Best New Artist nomination at the 2012 Soul Train Music Awards. His second mixtape, "Whispers in the Dark" provided significant buzz for his debut album, "Made to Love," and he earned a nomination for Best R&B Performance at the Grammys. The icing on the cake, however, was being personally chosen by Beyonce Knowles at the opening act for her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour in 2013. BET.com said "It would be a pop culture injustice if Luke James doesn't become a household name." It appears now that Mr. James is well on his way.
