As the first musical written by the legendary team of composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II, Oklahoma! tells the story of Curly Mclain, a cowboy, and Laurey Willliams, a farm girl. The musical, which is based on Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs, is set in Oklaoma in 1906. The original production ran 2,212 performances, and generated a slew of revivals, national tours, foreign productions and an Academy Award-winning 1955 film adaptation. Although it's been decades since it's inception, fans still seek Oklahoma! tickets as the play garners various productions worldwide.
