Based on the 2007 Israeli film of the same name, The Band’s Visit has received critical acclaim since it first opened off-Broadway. With lyrics and music by famed Broadway composer David Yazbek, The Band’s Visit is a musical masterpiece that keeps fans coming back for more. Less than a year after its premiere, the critically acclaimed show opened on Broadway and has continued to enjoy success ever since. The show has won several awards, including the Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Music and Outstanding Lyrics, and the Tony Awards for Best Book of a Musical, Best Musical, and Best Original Score. The cast received a combined twelve Tony Awards in 2018 out of fourteen nominations. One of the biggest names to take the stage at the launch of The Band’s Visit’s Broadway run is Tony Shalhoub. Known for his television and film work, Tony Shalhoub gives a riveting performance, which earned him a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. Tony Shalhoub has numerous acting credits, including the television shows Monk and Wings, along with filsms such as Men in Black, The Siege, Galaxy Quest, and Spy Kids. He has been nominated for numerous awards and has appeared in genres from dark drama to horror, comedy to kids’ films. His talent made him perfect to launch the Broadway debut in the role of Tewfiq Zakaria. Shalhoub has since stepped away from the role and the production. Katrina Lenk opened the show with her portrayal of Dina, winning the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Katrina Lenk has starred in many regional productions in her hometown of Chicago, as well as Broadway productions of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, Once, and Indecent. Actor and playwright John Edward Cariani opened the show playing Itzik. Theatergoers will recognize John Edward Cariani from his role in Law & Order as Julian Beck, the forensics expert. He has many credits to his name, including Almost, Maine, which he wrote. Almost, Maine has become one of the most frequently produced plays in the United States. He also starred in Something Rotten! as Nigel Bottom and the 2004 Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof as Motel the Tailor, a role which earned him a Tony Award Nomination. The Band’s Visit made its off-Broadway debut at the Atlantic Theater Company in November of 2016. The Band’s Visit opened on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, with the first preview on Oct 7, 2017. It officially launched Nov 9, 2017.
