Both teams came into Super Bowl 50 as the top seed in their conference. The Broncos had the NFL’s best defense for the 2017 season, and the Panthers had the league’s best offense. The star of the Panthers’ offense was 2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton; linebacker Von Miller led the way for the Broncos’ defense.

The Broncos have been through some changes since Super Bowl 50. Most notable is the retirement of quarterback Peyton Manning. While the Broncos still boast one of the NFL’s best defensive units, they’re still looking for a reliable quarterback to replace Manning. Cam Newton still leads the Panthers offense.

Super Bowl 50: The Panthers entered Super Bowl 50 with a 15-1 record in the regular season, and their offense scored more points than any other team. The Panthers scored a record 49 points in the NFC Championship game on their way to the Super Bowl, and quarterback Cam Newton easily won MVP that year.

But defense was the story of Super Bowl 50. The Broncos scored on a field goal in their opening drive and led for the rest of the game. The Broncos defense sacked Newton six times, intercepted him once, and forced two fumbles. Newton passed for just 265 yards on the game. The Broncos won the game 24-10 with just 194 yards on offense. Super Bowl 50 was also the last game in legendary quarterback Peyton Manning’s career. Manning also struggled in the game. He did not throw a touchdown pass but was able to complete a two point conversion near the end.
