One of the 12 U.S. cities with four major professional teams, Detroit sports have a long and storied history. The most successful team of late may be the NHL’s Red Wings, as the team won the 2009 Stanley Cup, hanging its 11th title banner in the rafters of Joe Louis Arena. The Detroit Tigers enjoy great popularity across the city, regularly filling up the stands at Comerica Park, and in the winter football fans have the benefit of watching the Lions play indoors at Ford Field. Basketball fans have to travel a bit outside the city limits to The Palace Of Auburn Hills, where they can watch the NBA’s Detroit Pistons play. While sports may seem to dominate the live events landscape, Detroit does have the nickname “Rock City” and has the venues to back it up, include Fox Theatre, The Fillmore Detroit, and Masonic Temple Theatre. Fisher Theatre in New Center is the place to go for the city’s best theater performances.
