Born as Aubrey Graham in 1986 in Toronto, a city that holds a strong presence in his music, Drake’s first entry into pop culture was as a cast member on teen drama Degrassi in the early ‘00s. It wasn’t long before he pursued a career in music, and it was his 2009 mixtape So Far Gone that first earned him serious attention. Lil Wayne, already a multi-time collaborator with Drake at that point, signed him to Young Money Entertainment just months after its release.
