Macy Gray (born Natalie Renée McIntyre in 1967) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress, renowned for her distinctive raspy voice and genre-blending style spanning soul, R&B, jazz, and funk. She first rose to international fame with her debut album On How Life Is (1999), which spawned the hit single “I Try” — a song that not only charted worldwide but earned her a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Over the years, Gray has released numerous albums, experimented with jazz and covers, acted in films and TV, and remained an influential voice known for emotional depth and bold artistic choices.

Macy Gray’s most recent full-length project is The Reset (2023), which she recorded with her band The California Jet Club. However, she has since announced a new album titled Love Songs for Big Hearts and Robots, slated for fall 2025. This upcoming record is expected to be a covers-oriented album (reimagined love songs) and includes Gray’s version of Alicia Keys’ “No One” as its lead single. The new album will mark her first solo album since Ruby (2018) and is anticipated to include some surprising features and production collaborations.
