About Paul Oakenfold
Without a doubt, Paul Oakenfold is one of the true forces of the global music scene. This producer and Trance DJ has taken over some of the most popular nightspots and festivals in the world. But he's also produced soundtracks for Hollywood blockbuster movies, and has earned two Grammy nominations for his work.
Of course Oakenfold already had music in his blood, raised by a musician father and having a childhood he says helped him grow up as a "bedroom DJ." In the 1980's, however, Oakenfold took two trips that helped to shape the artist he would become. The first was in 1984 wen he spent several months living in New York City working as A&R man for Champion Records. All he did in that short amount of time was sign DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, as well as Salt-n-Pepa. He also became the promoter and British agent for the Beastie Boys and Run-D.M.C.
The second trip was in 1987 when Oakenfold visited the White Isle of Ibiza. After that visit, he took the Balearic sound back to the UK and became its ambassador. He would return to Ibiza often, holding residencies at Amnesia and Pacha. Undoubtedly earning his frequent flyer miles, he was also the first resident of the Ministry Of Sound in London, and later went on to a famed residency at Cream in Liverpool.
Oakenfold has produced for the likes of U2 and Madonna and has remixed Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones and Justin Timberlake and released over 20 DJ mix compilations. And in the last few years, he has created film scores for "The Bourne Identity," "Matrix Reloaded," "Shrek 2," "Swordfish" and "Collateral."
Over the past 3 years he has held a weekly residency at the legendary Rain nightclub in The Palms, Las Vegas. His radio show also airs weekly on Sirius XM Satellite Radio's - Electric Area Channels Saturdays at 8pm EST and rebroadcasts Wednesdays at 12 noon EST.
