About Skrillex
About Skrillex
His moniker was born of an AOL instant Messenger screen name. At one point he had just $1,500 to his name, and was living credit card to credit card. And to top it off, he and ten friends were living in a crumbling warehouse in downtown Los Angeles while they scrounged up enough cash to make ends meet.

Born Sonny Moore, Skrillex was called the "$15 Million DJ" by Forbes in the summer of 2012 and has officially been on a roll since posting his very first EP ("My Name is Skrillex") to his MySpace page back on June 7, 2010. A few months later came the follow-up "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites," and "More Monsters and Sprites" by 2011. By November 30 of that year, he had been nominated for a total of five Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and won three – Best Dance/Electronica Album, Best Dance Recording and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.
So how does an artist go from playing small venues to packing superclubs with a pyrotechnic-equipped DJ booth while raking in thousands of dollars a night? As his buzz grew, he signed with Deadmau5, allowing him to up his production budget to host a concert that becomes an experience.
Skrillex also launched an independent label, OWSLA, in September 2011 and quickly had a dozen electronic artists signed. He's also composed music for video games and movies, continues to release EPs (including 2013's "Try It Out" with Alvin Risk), and may have a new album coming out in 2014.
