As we prep for the Chicago White Sox season opener, let’s take a look at the 2022 roster changes. Keep in mind: while clubs aren’t allowed to make Major League transactions during the lockout, they can sign players to Minor League contracts.

Chicago White Sox Team Changes

The 2021 White Sox roster was no stranger to injuries, especially the outfield. Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert, and Adam Engel all missed the majority of the season. Of course, the hope is everyone will be healthy and ready to play for the 2022 season. With Jimenez expected back in left field and Robert back in center, the right field position is a gamble. The ideal scenario is signing Michael Conforto, leaving Adam Engel as an important fourth outfielder.

Chicago White Sox Roster Highlights

The Chicago White Sox roster will likely stay the same (for the most part). 2021 was an incredible year for the franchise (ranking 1st in the AL Central), so rather than make too many changes, we’re more likely to see breakout performances from top players. First base Gavin Sheets knocked 11 home runs and 8 doubles with a low strikeout rate of 22.3%. Second base Romy Gonzalez had an effective 2021 with 24 home runs in 93 games between Double and Triple-A. Though the stats are a little shaky, Jimmy Lambert is still the highest-ranked pitching prospect in the Sox franchise.
