About Alejandro Fernandez
"The Colt" gallops his way to international stardom
Alejandro Fernandez isn't just a star. He is, without question, one of the most renowned international superstars to come out of Mexico, and he's been doing his thing since well before the turn of the millennium.
Nicknamed "El Potrillo" (The Colt) by the media and his fans, Fernandez has sold an astonishing 30 million albums worldwide on the strength of his earthy Mexican folk music like mariachi and ranchera. He officially broke through with his sixth studio album, 1997's "Me Estoy Enamorando," which crossed over to the Latin pop mainstream , and rode the top of the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart for weeks.
Fernandez, as it turns out, followed in the footsteps of his father and performed traditional Mexican music of the Jalisco region to kick-start his career. His first five albums all spawned a series of his singles, but "Me Estoy Enamorando" put him on a different level. It produced four Hot Latin Tracks chart-toppers: "Si Tu Supieras," "En el Jardin" (a duet with Gloria Estefan), "No Se Olvidar," and "Yo Naci Para Amarte."
Now with 14 studio albums (and one soundtrack) under his belt, Fernandez has found a rhythm of alternating between traditional albums and Latin pop. The latest record, 2013's "Confidencias," reached No. 1 on the Billboard Latin Album charts and peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard 200. It features duets with special guests like "The Voice" judge and fellow artist Christina Aguilera, as well as singer Rod Stewart.
The Latin crooner continued to melt hearts and make women swoon on his 2013 world tour, "Alejandro Fernandez Confidencias World Tour 2013." He also released the album "Confidencias," which included a duet with Christina Aguilera called "Hoy Tengo Ganas de Ti," as well as duets with Vincente Fernandez and Rod Stewart.
