Duck Sauce quacks about new album
So you're a musician. You're in a musical outfit named Duck Sauce. What else would you call your first album but "Quack?"
The aforementioned disc – the duo's official debut effort – released through Fool's Gold Records on April 15, 2014. It features 12 songs, including "Barbra Streisand" and the previously released singles "aNYway," "It's You," and "Radio Stereo." The lead single, "NRG," was named Zane Lowe's "Hottest Record in the World" just prior to the full album release.
Rolling Stone said the album was "squarely in the tradition of stoned dance-floor hitmakers from past decades like Deee-Lite, Fatboy Slim and M|A|R|R|S." Another critic from Allmusic.com also said Duck Sauce had "released a seriously subversive slab of music with their infectious, Boney M.-sampling track "Barbra Streisand" and wrapped up his review by noting, "not since Disco Tex unleased his Sex-O-Lettes has there been such a cheeky way to keep dancing."
In an interview with Rolling Stone, the duo was quick to note that their warped sense of humor has had something to do with their success. "I think we figured out early on that when we really have fun in the studio, when we laugh at our own music, that is usually when something good happens." Though Duck Sauce hasn't yet announced any 2015 events, fans should stay tuned to hear more from this dynamite duo.
About Duck Sauce
Ask someone for duck sauce, and they're likely to assume you're having Chinese food for dinner. But ask someone about Duck Sauce, and they may infer you're talking about the red-hot American/Canadian DJ duo consisting of Armand Van Helden and A-Trak.
The sound of Duck Sauce was established with the release of their first tracks, "aNYway" and "You're Nasty." (The NY in "aNYway" signifies their origins in the state of New York) Their debut EP, "Greatest Hits" was eventually released on July 15, 2010.
Duck Sauce made waves in the summer of 2010 when they released a single called "Barbra Streisand," named after the singer of the same name. The track not only gained heavy DJ support, it swept across radio from the UK and Ireland all the way to Sri Lanka. It reached the No. 1 position on the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart, and was later featured in "Glee's" 18th episode of their second season entitled "Born This Way." The music video online also has close to 70 million views.
Other songs released by Duck Sauce include "Big Bad Wolf," "It's You," and "Radio Stereo." The latter is a reworking of the song "Radio," a chart-topping track back in 1982 written by Members guitarist Nigel Bennett.
Duck Sauce will play Coachella on both weekends of the festival (April 13, 2014 and again on April 20th). They will share a stage with the likes of Muse, MGMT, Kid Cudi, Foster The People, Arcade Fire, Calvin Harris and Skrillex during the event.
