Halsey Details

Born in Clark, New Jersey, Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, better known as Halsey, is a talented American singer and songwriter. You may be wondering how this hit artist has come to be known as Halsey. The name is a reference to Halsey Street station in Brooklyn where she has spent a lot of time; it’s also an anagram of her first name. Music has always run through Halsey’s veins. In fact, she grew up playing the violin, viola, cello, and, eventually, the acoustic guitar.

Halsey didn’t rise to fame straight out of high school. Rather, she enrolled at the Rhode Island School of Design. She withdrew due to financial hardships, attending a community college which she later dropped out of. It was at this time that Halsey turned to the internet. She started uploading videos to sites like Tumblr and YouTube, including Taylor Swift parodies.

With the success of her single “Ghost”, she was signed to Astralwerks, a label owned by Universal Music Group. Just two years after dropping out of college, Halsey found herself touring with The Kooks. That same year, her debut album came out and she was performing at festivals like South by Southwest. She’d come a long way.

In a short time, Halsey developed a distinct style in the industry. Her songs are classified as electropop and synth-pop. She’s since toured with the likes of Young Rising Songs and Imagine Dragons. Halsey has credited Kanye West, The Weeknd, and Amy Winehouse as just a few of her musical influences. Halsey has also said that Panic! At The Disco “changed her life.”
