Halsey, born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane on September 29, 1994 in Edison, New Jersey, is an American singer-songwriter and actress known for her genre-blending electropop, art-pop, indie rock and alt-R&B style. She rose to fame with self-released tracks like “Ghost” on platforms such as Tumblr and SoundCloud around 2012, which led to a record deal with Astralwerks in 2014. Her major-label debut album Badlands (2015) became triple-platinum, with every track achieving at least gold certification by the RIAA—underscoring her early cultural impact.

Halsey’s fifth studio album, The Great Impersonator, was released on October 25, 2024 via Columbia Records. Crafted during a period marked by serious health challenges (including lupus and a T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder) and personal upheaval, the album is a confessional concept piece exploring identity, mortality and artistic evolution. Musically eclectic, it blends pop rock, folk and alternative styles with references across past decades. It debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200, continuing her streak of top-two albums.

Halsey has had a string of hit songs across pop, alternative and electropop genres. Here’s a breakdown of her most popular and defining tracks:

• “Without Me” (2018) – A breakout solo hit that topped the Billboard Hot 100, inspired by a past relationship, and one of her most-streamed songs globally.

• “Closer” (2016) – Collaboration with The Chainsmokers; #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks and one of the defining EDM-pop tracks of the decade.

• “Bad at Love” (2017) – From her album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a fan-favorite for its candid lyrics.

• “Colors” (2016) – A signature track from Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, known for its poetic lyrics and alt-pop sensibility.

• “Gasoline” (2015) – From her debut album Badlands, considered a cult favorite showcasing Halsey’s raw, edgy style.

• “Nightmare” (2019) – A feminist empowerment anthem with heavy pop-rock influence, debuting in the top 20 of Billboard Hot 100.

• “Hurricane” (2014) – From Badlands, an early song that helped define her atmospheric alt-pop sound.

• “Now or Never” (2017) – Lead single from Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, blending pop and R&B influences.

• “Graveyard” (2019) – From Manic, reached #34 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was widely streamed.

• “I Am Not a Woman, I’m a God” (2021) – From If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, praised for its experimental production and dark pop sound.
