Hillary and Clinton is a new play created by Tony Award nominee Lucas Hnath and directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello. Hillary and Clinton stars veterans of the stage and screen, Laurie Metcalf and John Lithgow as Hillary and Bill Clinton. The poignant show follows the pair in 2008, as the former First Lady is trying to save her presidential campaign. With an interesting spin on history and an exciting cast on stage, Hillary and Clinton is already creating Tony Award buzz.
Laurie Metcalf shines as Hillary Clinton, opening Hillary and Clinton with a bang. While many fans will recognize her from her years playing Jackie Harris on Roseanne, or any of the dozens of films she’s starred in, Laurie Metcalf has had quite a bit of success on the stage, too. Metcalf has been nominated for five Tony Awards, winning two. She won Best Actress in a Play (2017) for A Doll’s House, Part 2, and Best Featured Actress in a Play (2018) for the revival of Three Tall Women. Metcalf has also won 3 Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (1992-1994). A talented actress who is accustomed to bringing strong women to life on stage and screen, Laurie Metcalf is the perfect fit to open Hillary and Clinton as the leading lady.
John Lithgow is another name fans are likely to be familiar with, as much for his television work, as well as his success in many popular films. With a career that has spanned five decades, Lithgow has a host of achievements to his name, not the least of which are his many awards for both stage and screen. He’s received two Tony Awards, six Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards, just to name a few. He’s also been nominated for multiple Oscar and Grammy Awards. A talented actor who has influenced his peers, Lithgow has been inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame and he has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Like his co-star, John Lithgow is the perfect actor to open the Broadway debut of Hillary and Clinton.
