Justin Bieber Details

A decade ago, Justin Bieber was a young Canadian teenager singing in local singing competitions. Today he is one of music’s biggest stars, and he has undergone several career, image and musical transformations in the time between. As the now-famous story goes, Bieber was discovered on YouTube by agent Scooter Braun—so much so, that Braun got Bieber into a room with R&B star Usher. Equally impressed, Usher signed Bieber to a record deal. He was only 15 when he released his debut EP, My World in November 2009. My World went platinum in the U.S., but it was My World 2.0 that launched his career into the stratosphere. Released in March 2010, 2.0 sold 283,000 copies in its first week, making Bieber the youngest solo male artist to hit No. 1 since Stevie Wonder in the early ‘60s. Lead single “Baby” spent over two years as the most-watched video on YouTube.

Due to the typical late-teen dramas that tend to befall young celebrities, many wrote off Bieber as a pre-teen sensation. They were wrong. He made a triumphant return to superstardom with 2015’s Purpose, a treatise on love, faith and redemption. 522,000 first-week sales don’t lie, and neither do three No. 1 singles: “What Do You Mean?,” “Sorry” and “Love Yourself” each topped the charts in the U.S. and the U.K., a feat none of his previously released songs had achieved. He hit No. 1 twice more in spring 2017 with features on DJ Khaled’s “I’m the One” and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito.”
