Yes, drummer and vocalist Brann Dailor confirmed in May 2026 that Mastodon will release their ninth studio album sometime in 2026, marking their first full-length since 2021's Hushed and Grim. The album will feature contributions from touring guitarist Nick Johnston and is described as a concept record with elements of punk, prog, and heavy music centered on supernatural horror. The new single Your Ghost Again, released June 2, 2026, is understood to be the first preview of the forthcoming record.

Founding guitarist Brent Hinds passed away on August 21, 2025, after a fatal motorcycle accident near downtown Atlanta. The band has continued performing and recording in his memory, with Nick Johnston stepping in as touring guitarist since Hinds' departure. Reviews from shows in 2025 and early 2026 reflect that Mastodon has carried on with intensity and purpose, with fans and critics noting the emotional weight the band brings to their live performances during this period.

Nick Johnston is serving as guitarist for Mastodon on the 2026 fall tour, filling the role previously held by founding member Brent Hinds. Johnston has been touring with the band since Hinds' passing in 2025 and is also contributing to Mastodon's upcoming ninth studio album. The current live lineup consists of Troy Sanders, Bill Kelliher, Brann Dailor, and Johnston.

Yes, Mastodon is scheduled to appear at two major US festivals in 2026. They are set to perform at Louder Than Life at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville on September 20, a festival also featuring Gojira, Killswitch Engage, and others. They are also booked for Sick New World at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth on October 24, which features System of a Down, Slayer, and Deftones on the lineup.

Mastodon's 2026 live sets pull heavily from across their catalog, with Leviathan, Blood Mountain, Crack the Skye, The Hunter, and Once More 'Round the Sun all consistently represented. Recent setlists have featured tracks like Tread Lightly, The Motherload, Ghost of Karelia, Steambreather, Megalodon, and Blood and Thunder as staples. The band has also been known to open shows with a cover of Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train as a tribute, and occasional Melvins and Black Sabbath covers have appeared on select nights.

Mastodon's current touring lineup for the 2026 fall tour consists of Troy Sanders on bass and vocals, Bill Kelliher on guitar, Brann Dailor on drums and vocals, and Nick Johnston on guitar. Johnston has been touring with the band since the passing of founding guitarist Brent Hinds in August 2025 and is also featured on the band's upcoming ninth studio album. The trio of Sanders, Kelliher, and Dailor make up the founding core that has driven Mastodon since the band formed in Atlanta in 2000.
