Get on the OFF! Bandwagon! This punk supergroup formed in late 2009 under the direction of Circle Jerks/Black Flag singer Keith Morris has left a lasting impression on fans.
Together with Burning Brides frontman Dimitri Coats, Redd Kross bassist Steven Shane McDonald, and Rocket From the Crypt/Hot Snakes drummer Mario Rubalcaba, Morris made lemonade out of lemons when a Circle Jerks album fell apart. He'd already been writing with Coats, and the two used that material to officially start Off!
One would think the pressure doesn't get much bigger than a live debut at the ever-growing, insanely popular South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. That's where the band took the stage for the first time together, then followed it up by taking over an art show at a downtown Los Angeles warehouse. In other words, OFF! Turned on the energy, becoming one of the most memorable musical experiences of the new decade.
The first official collection of songs by OFF! became known as the "First Four EPs." It was followed by a full-length self-titled album in 2012, and in the spring of 2014 was followed by "Wasted Years." The band believes the project to be the 'most direct embodiment' of their mission yet (according to their website), and was recorded live to 8-track 1/2" tape with almost no rehearsal beforehand. OFF! is all about spontaneity, and that bleeds over from their recordings to their live shows. If you can't catch them on stage, you'll be missing one of the most creative and energetic environments in music today.
