Snoop Dogg collaborates with Pharrell

Even as fans are gearing up to hear the last of 'Snoop Dogg,' the musician has unveiled that he's cooking up something new in the studio. In fact, he took to YouTube to deliver a sneak peak of his collaboration with one of the hottest names in music.

The video features Snoop with his buddy Kurupt and the new Moonrocks-branded weed that coats marijuana with hash oil and kief. While lighting the joint, Snoop rolls roughly 30-seconds of his new song with Pharrell play in the background.

"I gets my grove on. I do my thang," Snoop says. "My planet's Krypton, home of the freaks. Come get yo moon rocks. I am G," he raps in the track before Pharrell enters on the chorus with the line, "when lightning strikes, you know it."

It was no secret that Snoop and Pharrell were working together on something news, nor is this the first time the two superstars have worked together. They previously collaborated on "Beautiful" and "Drop It Like It's Hot." There's also no telling if this new song will make it to Snoop's final album, but it's looking good that it might.

Studio work aside, Snoop will host a rap battle September 19 during the BET Hip Hop Awards weekend in Atlanta. The battle, better known as Gladiator School, will be at The Masquerade and co-hosted by Snoop and New York-based rapper Murda Mook. To be considered for the event, artists submit a 30-to-60 second video of themselves rapping to Twitter with the hashtag #Gladiator school and must tag Snoop's official Twitter account @SnoopDogg.

People often wonder what would've become of Snoop Dog had he not revamped his public image in the late 1990's. Once surrounded by a life of crime, prison bars and the gangsta lifestyle, he instead took the fork in the road that led down a completely different path.

As it turned out, rock was a saving grace for this rapper, and it was an appearance at Lollapalooza in 1997 that put the wheels in motion for Snoop to be labeled a cultural phenomenon. First came the album "Da Game Is to Be Sold Not to Be Told. A year later he released "No Limit Top Dogg," and "The Last Meal" the year after that. All of them showed the new Snoop – the one of varying musical styles, but known as much for his personality as he was for his music.

The turn of the century saw Snoop release an autobiography, and he landed several movie roles that kept his name in the mainstream consciousness. Of course there were more albums – five in seven years to be exact (2002-2009) and he capitalized on business opportunities left and right, landing at the reactivated Priority label as its creative chairman. In 2011, he released "Doggumentary," an album he touted as the sequel to his debut. It was followed in 2013 by "Reincarnated," and in June 2013 producer Symbolyc One (S1) announced Snoop was working on his final album under the moniker Snoop Dog.
