Tiga rolls with "Bugatti"
How does a song with just 13 words manage to become one of the biggest club hits of 2014? Just ask Tiga.
"Girl comes up to me and says, what you drivin'?" "I said, Bugatti."
These are the only words in Tiga's "Bugatti," a tech-house track that somehow became stuck in the brain of anyone who entered a nightclub last year. (Don't deny it. You know you were shaking it to the most classic of house vibes and the song's one and only addictive vocal line.)
Shortly thereafter, Tiga teamed up with Helmi and Division Paris to take the massivly popular track from the turntable to the big screen. The resulting music video, which follows Tiga though a nearly hypnotizing sequence of scenes, was called "inventive and visual"by the website Thump.
The song, of course, was just a tease of what's to come from Tiga's long-awaited third album, following 2009's "Ciao!" and 2006's "Sexor." He recently told thevine.com in Australia there's no release date set in stone yet, but did say he's "really happy" with the progress. He noted it's "been ready for a while, but I just want to keep adding tracks."
Until the album rolls out, you can catch Tiga on the road, as he recently went Down Under to perform in Australia. His tour kicked off in Adelaide on March 12th, the first of five dates that saw him also romp through Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
Say hey to the man born and raised in Montreal, yet fully remembers his first exposure to music when his father brought him along on a tour of India.
DJ Tiga (real name Tiga James Sontag) is known as a Canadian DJ and record producer of electronic music. Yet he lets the cultural experiences he's had help to shape the sound that fans have responded to. It all started in the early '90s when Tiga began DJing in his native city, helping to bring house music and raves North of the Border. In fact, he's officially credited as throwing Canada's first proper rave anywhere, and it's apparent his fellow countrymen (and women) dig the acid house and electroclash music they hadn't known before Tiga.
Other tidbits of info on his superstar? He opened Montreal's first house music-only record store called DNA, experienced his breakthrough by releasing a celebrated version of fellow Montrealer Corey Hart's "Sunglasses at Night," and in 2002 was picked to spearhead a version of the enormously successful DJ compilations called "DJ Kicks." His version of Nelly's monster hit "Hot in Here" proved to be yet another single that would send tongues wagging for Tiga.
The multi-talented Tiga is host of the BBC Radio 6 Music show "My Name is Tiga" and has also tried his hand at acting. He made his film debut in the 2010 movie "Ivory Tower," co-starring Chilly Gonzales, Feist and Peaches. The film won special mention at the Locarno International Film Festival.
Tiga's most recent song, "Plush," a Jacques Lu Cont remix, is currently featured in the best-selling video game "Grand Theft Auto V."
