Located in Dallas, the American Airlines Center is the home for professional basketball and hockey in Dallas. In Victory Park, the venue opened in 2001, and has seen both of its main tenants, the Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks, have high levels of success while playing there. The American Airlines Center has also been the host of other high-profile events in the worlds of sports, entertainment, and music since opening to the public.

The American Airlines Center has been the home to two different NBA Finals since opening, with the Mavericks qualifying for the championship series in 2006 as well as 2011. The AAC saw Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat come back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Mavericks in 2006, while Dallas got their revenge on Miami in the 2011 Finals when they spoiled the first Finals appearance for LeBron James as a member of the Heat. That 2011 Finals saw Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki get his first NBA championship after a long wait.

Hockey fans have seen some great days in the American Airlines Center as well, with the Dallas Stars having plenty of great seasons while playing in the venue. Led by Mike Modano, the Stars spent time as one of the most formidable squads in the National Hockey League, and were consistent threats to win the Stanley Cup. The venue also was the home for a fight between two men who would end up being remembered as two of the most dominant heavyweights in UFC history, when Allistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum squared off in a Strikeforce bout in 2011.
