WWE Details

Professional wrestling has a long and interesting history in North America. Various promotions have risen to the top of the wrestling landscape over the years, despite stiff competition from other companies and entertainment options. In this dynamic and exciting part of the entertainment world, one promotion has outlasted the others to dominate the market: Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

The WWE – and its previous incarnations of the WWWF and WWF – has been running shows in the USA since 1963. After buying out World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 2001 and holding off a challenge from Total Nonstop Action (TNA) in the late 2000s, the WWE has cemented its place as the premier sports entertainment brand in the entire world.

The company has succeeded by staying relevant with the times and by attracting the biggest wrestling stars in the world to work under its banner. From the territory days where the likes of Bruno Sammartino and “Superstar” Billy Graham ruled the New York area that was the company’s home, through to national crossover stars such as Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and The Rock, the likelihood is that any wrestler you have heard of today made their name in the WWE.

The WWE made a bold move in 1985 when McMahon banked the entire future of the company on a massive pay-per-view event that he named Wrestlemania. The event drew almost 20,000 fans to Madison Square Garden and was seen by over one million viewers through closed-circuit television, all tuning in to see Hulk Hogan team up with Mr. T in a tag team match in the main event. The use of celebrities was a huge win for McMahon, with Wrestlemania now being a yearly super show that attracts fans from all around the world for a weekend long wrestling extravaganza.

How many shows does the WWE run?

The WWE is a huge promotion with multiple TV tapings and house shows each week. The flagship Monday Night Raw program is broadcast live for three hours every Monday night, Smackdown airs live for two hours on a Tuesdays, and PPVs are live on a Sunday night roughly once a month. These shows move around the country, as do the house shows that are run two or three times a week. Additionally, NXT is taped monthly.

What are the “Big Four” WWE events and when do they take plac?

The traditional “Big Four” WWE events are Royal Rumble (January), Wrestlemania (April), Summerslam (August), and Survivor Series (November).

What is the average cost of a WWE event ticket?

WWE tickets vary depending on the type of show. Tickets to local shows in smaller cities can start as low as $15-$20, while tickets for the larger Big Four events such as Wrestlemania can range from about $50 to prices in the hundreds depending on the location, venue, and card.
