ZZ Top is an American blues-rock band formed in Houston, Texas, in 1969. The classic lineup featured Billy Gibbons (guitar/vocals), Dusty Hill (bass/vocals) and Frank Beard (drums). Dusty Hill’s passing in 2021 brought longtime tech Elwood Francis onto bass, per Hill’s wishes.

ZZ Top was made famous by:

• Their breakthrough came with Tres Hombres (1973), which featured the hit “La Grange,” peaking at No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100.

• In the '80s, albums like Eliminator (1983) and Afterburner (1985), combined classic blues-rock with synths, producing iconic MTV videos like “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Legs” and “Gimme All Your Lovin.'"

• They’ve sold around 50 million albums globally, won multiple MTV VMAs and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

ZZ Top’s most recent studio album is La Futura, released on September 10, 2012, produced by Rick Rubin and featuring ten tracks blending blues-rock with a modern edge.

Beyond that, they released a live studio-style album, RAW, on July 22, 2022, recorded at Gruene Hall as a companion to the Netflix documentary That Little Ol’ Band From Texas. That album captured newly recorded versions of classic ZZ Top songs performed in an intimate, rootsy session with all three original members—including Dusty Hill.

As for new studio material, Billy Gibbons confirmed in early 2025 interviews that recording is underway for another ZZ Top album—Dusty Hill reportedly contributed before his passing. But no official title or release date has been announced yet, and it’s not been released as of mid-2025.
