Packers vs. Bears Details
Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers
The NFL rivalry with the most games played between the two sides exists in the midwest, where the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears have tangled nearly 200 times since their first meeting in 1921. Since then, the teams have virtually traded wins, with the number of victories for each team over the other being nearly identical despite almost a century of matchups. These games have featured some legendary coaches, and even more legendary players.
Among the key players and coaches to have taken part in the Bears/Packers rivalry are Packers legends, Vince Lombardi and Brett Favre, while Mike Ditka and Walter Payton represented the Bears against Green Bay on several occasions.
Historic Bears vs. Packers Games
Perfect seasons have been ruined as a result of the rivalry between the Bears and Packers, with a 1941 meeting between the teams serving as a prime example. Chicago had yet to lose a game heading into their November clash, until the Packers ended that streak with a 16-14 win over the Bears, by virtue of building a 16-0 lead and barely managing to hang on for the famous victory. Just a month and a half later, the two teams got together for their first postseason meeting, with the Bears getting revenge in the form of a 33-14 victory.
Surprisingly, there has been just one other playoff meeting between the Bears and Packers, with that contest taking place during the 2011 NFC Championship Game. Green Bay's defense was the star of that game, with defensive lineman, BJ Raji, known for being a big run stuffing presence in the middle of the Packers defensive line, intercepting a Caleb Hanie pass and returning it for a touchdown. The Packers won that NFC Championship Game by a final score of 21-14, and went onto win the Super Bowl over the Pittsburgh Steelers to finish off that season.
Shutting out the great Brett Favre is no small task, but the Bears found a way to do it in 2006, when they rode their defense to a 26-0 win in that installment of the rivalry.
In 2014, Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, made history when he tied a league record with six touchdown passes in the first half against the Bears. Green Bay ended up winning the game by a final score of 55-14, with the Packers' 55 points serving as the highest total for one team in the long history of this rivalry.
