About Bela Fleck and the Flecktones Tickets
Béla Fleck first picked up the banjo in New York City as a teenager—enticed by the sounds of Earl Scruggs on The Beverly Hillbillies theme—and quickly developed a broader affinity for jazz and classical music. After cutting his teeth with progressive bluegrass outfits like Tasty Licks and New Grass Revival, Fleck assembled a group of extraordinary musicians in 1988 for a PBS special performance: harmonica/keyboard wizard Howard Levy, bass virtuoso Victor Wooten and percussion innovator Roy “Future Man” Wooten. This ensemble, later titled Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, began touring and experimenting with unorthodox instrumentation, including the Wootens' signature drumitar.
Their recorded debut arrived in 1990 with the self‑titled Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, followed by the groundbreaking Flight of the Cosmic Hippo (1991), which topped Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz chart and earned multiple Grammy nominations. Across albums like UFO Tofu (1992), Outbound (2000) and Rocket Science (2011)—the latter reuniting original member Howard Levy—the band solidified its reputation for blending jazz, bluegrass, funk, classical and world music into a genre-defying sound. Notably, Rocket Science won a Grammy for Instrumental Composition with “Life in Eleven.
Over the decades, Fleck and the Flecktones have captured more than a dozen Grammy Awards across diverse categories—pop, jazz, bluegrass, classical, world music—making Fleck one of the most Grammy-nominated artists in history. The group’s live performances are legendary for their improvisational energy and genre-crossing exploration, drawing enthusiastic audiences at festivals like Telluride, Montreal Jazz Fest, Newport Folk Festival and Bonnaroo. Their inventive sound has earned them acclaim for technical mastery, creative originality and transcending musical boundaries.
