Eagles vs. Cowboys Details
Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Two titans of titans of the NFC East, the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys have a rivalry that often ends up determining who will win one of the most competitive divisions in football, and who will give themselves an opportunity to make a deep playoff run. The teams first met in 1960, and have linked up for over 100 meetings since, for a rivalry game that has been around longer than the Super Bowl itself has existed.
Key players in the rivalry between the Cowboys and Eagles are a list of some of the greatest players to play in the NFL, with all time greats like Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach headlining the list of Cowboys to play in the rivalry, while the Eagles enjoyed the services of stars such as Randall Cunningham and Donovan McNabb.
Historic Cowboys vs. Eagles Games
The Eagles got off to a great start in this rivalry, not only outperforming the Cowboys in the 1960 season, but outperforming the entire NFL, en route to the league championship that year. In the inaugural game between the two teams, the Eagles picked up a 27-25 victory, in what has turned out to be a microcosm of what a competitive series it has been between the two teams over the years.
In 1980, 20 years after the first meeting between the Cowboys and Eagles, the two squads met with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. In a great bit of gamesmanship, the Eagles decided to wear their white uniforms for the game, forcing Dallas to wear their blue jerseys. At the time, it was believed that those blue jerseys were cursed, and this game did nothing to dispel that notion, as the Eagles defeated the Cowboys by a 20-7 score en route to a Super Bowl appearance.
The 2010 season featured two games of massive importance between the Cowboys and Eagles, with Dallas notching victories in both games. Dallas shut Philadelphia out and enjoyed a 24-0 win in a game that decided the NFC East champion on the final day of the regular season for both teams. Both teams ended up making the playoffs, and facing off with one another in the first round, with Dallas taking that game as well by a final score of 34-14.
