No album announcement coming from Eminem
Sorry, Eminem fans, but the rumors of a new album have turned out to be just that – rumors. On January 20, 2015 new info came out regarding Eminem's alleged upcoming "Roots" album. According to MLive (and reported on various other outlets), Eminem will NOT be notifying fans of a new project anytime soon.
A spokesperson for Eminem, Dennis Dennehey, e-mailed the Michigan-based media center to stop the rumors that were spreading like wildfire. He wrote that the reports of new material are "completely untrue" and said "There's no album announcement coming."
Dennehey has served as Eminem's publicist for over a decade, so his shooting down falsified reports should hold some weight with fans. Dennehey chose to speak out after the Hip-Hop vibe initially reported Eminem was planning to release an album titled "Roots." The blog site had no sources on the record, however, but even went as far as to say the rapper would make the official announcement during the upcoming Grammy awards.
Eminem has yet to comment on any new material that may be forthcoming, but his manager did say his client is still visiting the studio frequently.
"He goes to the studio like most people go to the office, Paul Rosenberg told MLive. "So five days a week, typically Monday through Friday, he'll be in the studio. It's not quite 9 to 5 – the hours tend to be quite longer – but he's there everyday."
Eminem's latest work is a compilation album by Shady Records, titled "Shady XV." The first single from the album, "Guts Over Fear," was released on August 25, 2014. The album was released on November 24, and debuted at number three on the Billboard 200.
Eminem rolls out Marshall Mathers LP2
On November 2, 2013, Eminem took home the very first YouTube Music Awards Artist of the Year honors. Two days later, fans got what they really wanted when the superstar rolled out "The Marshall Mathers LP2" on Aftermath Entertainment, Shady Records and Interscope Records.
The aforementioned project was a longtime coming, and the standard edition included 16 tracks. The deluxe edition comes in even heavier, with 21 tracks. But under the "Marshall Mathers" title, the discs combined to give Eminem his seventh album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It also had the second-largest debut sales week of the year, and Eminem became the first lead artist since the Beatles to have four singles in the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
If you think 2013 couldn't have ended on a higher note for the superstar, guess again. Eminem won the "Global Icon" award at the 2013 MTV EMA Music Awards, and "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" also debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, also becoming his seventh consecutive No. 1 album in Britain. He is the first American act to score second consecutive UK Number 1 albums and on par with The Beatles for most chart-topping UK albums in a row.
Eminem also started 2014 on a roll, working with Mark Bass of the Bass Brothers to complete D12's next record. Bass confirmed that Eminem is featured on at least three songs that have been completed. It's also been revealed that Eminem (along with OutKast, Skrillex and Kings of Leon) will headline Lollapalooza 2014, set for August 1-3 in Chicago's Grant Park.
Eminem still 'Most Anticipated' (Updated July 11, 2013)
Coming off the high of a 2012 tour with Lil Wayne, Eminem also had a lot going on off-stage while his road show was in full swing. The rapper was in studio for much of the calendar year working on his eighth studio album. And without a title or a release date, it was immediately included in multiple "Most Anticipated Albums of 2013" lists, including compilations from MTV, XXL and Complex Magazines.
Though little is known about the upcoming project, it didn't stop the Internet rumor mill from shifting into overdrive. There was an anticipated release of July 2, but the date has come and gone with the superstar's camp remaining mum on all fronts. Unusual, considering there are dates locked in for Eminem to perform in Europe in August, which span from Belgium (on the 15th) to the Leeds Festival (on the 25th).
What do we know is Eninem's creativity hasn't been curtailed. He served as the executive producer on new artist Skylar Grey's first true solo effort, "Don't Look Down," and is featured in the video for the single "C'Mon Let Me Ride." He's also featured in the documentary "How to Make Money Selling Drugs," talking about a substance habit that included Vicodin, Valium and Xanax. The film, which was co-produced by "Entourage's" Adrian Grenier, also features interviews with rapper 50 Cent, actor Woody Harrelson and "The Wire's" David Simon. It opened in theaters at the end of June.
Eminem stormed the rap scene with the 1999 smash hit and major-label debut, "The Slim Shady LP," which won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. Since then he has been one of hip hop's hottest artists. From freestyling to 'freestyling', from EPs to LPs and from cyphers to blockbusters, Mr. Marshall Mathers III has proved he can do it all.
On the heels of his initial success, Eminem's follow-up project, "The Marshall Mathers LP" became the fastest-selling hip hop album in history. It not only landed the artist true mainstream recognition, but enabled the launch of his own record label, Shady Records, and thrust his group, D12, into the spotlight.
A third release, "The Eminem Show," brought further success. Another Grammy was added to the growing haul, and he transitioned to the big screen to play the lead in the semi-autobiographical film 8 Mile, which also won him an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2003 for "Lose Yourself." He followed it with the 2004 album, "Encore," before personal troubles sent him into a turbulent hiatus.
As well documented, Mathers battled a lengthy and near-fatal addiction to prescription medications including Ambien, Valium, Vicodin and methodone. His return to the music scene came in the form of back-to-back projects in 2009 ("Relapse") and 2010 ("Recovery"). The latter was an international success and was named the best selling album worldwide of 2010. He also captured Grammy Awards for both albums, giving him 13 for his career.
