Governors Ball Music Festival Details
What started as a single-day festival back in 2011, has grown into a multi-day event highlighting some of the biggest names in the music industry. The Governors Ball is held at Randall’s Island Park, NYC each year in June. It’s as much a celebration of the start of summer as it is an exciting festival. Not just a music festival, the Governors Ball has grown to include many other fun events for folks to enjoy– like croquet, ping pong, and even a silent disco!
In 2012, the Governors Ball Music Festival expanded to two days. Then, the following year, the festival went on for three days! The 2013 lineup included some of the biggest names the festival had ever seen, including Guns N’ Roses, Kings of Leon, and Kanye West. From there, the festival has only grown bigger and bigger– lasting three days each year and attracting tons of people to the city that never sleeps. The Governors Ball is always an epic weekend of music, games, and celebrations.
This music festival always goes on, rain or shine. In fact, the 2013 Governors Ball was a rather muddy affair- but that didn’t keep folks from showing up to see Kanye! In fact, nearly 135,000 people showed up to the festival that year. The numbers have since grown to reach over 150,000 thousand annual attendees. Talk about dedication!
Festival goers can also find free water stations peppered throughout the grounds. NYC can be quite hot in the summer, so it’s important to keep hydrated during a festival like this. There are also plenty of food trucks and vendors to enjoy throughout the event!
