His first record was a collection of instrumental standards played on piano, but when his next album, 20, included his smooth vocals, Harry Connick Jr. found himself in the spotlight, catching the attention of director Rob Reiner. In 1989, Reiner tapped Connick to record the soundtrack for When Harry Met Sally, which earned Harry Connick Jr. his first Grammy Award for Best Jazz Male Vocal Performance. That led Connick to make his on-screen debut the following year on Memphis Belle. That role snowballed into several television and film appearances, propelling the talented singer into superstardom and making him a household name.
Harry Connick Jr. has had an amazing career, from jazz lounges to Broadway and television to film. After a successful run as a guest judge on the 2010 and 2013 seasons of American Idol, Connick became a regular judge on the show from 2014 to 2016.
