Kesha Details

The label of singer/songwriter usually conjures an image of a subdued, acoustic performer. With her bleached-blonde hair and provocative poses, Kesha doesn’t quite fit the mold, but it doesn’t change the fact that she has been one of the most successful singer/songwriters on the pop scene in recent years. Born Kesha Sebert, the future pop star moved from Nashville to California at the age of 18 to pursue a career in music, forgoing a scholarship to college. Her mother Pebe, a successful songwriter, encouraged Kesha's career decision and went on to collaborate with her daughter on several albums. Four years after arriving in LA, Kesha scored her first Billboard No. 1 hit by contributing vocals to Flo Rida’s “Right Round.” (It was also Bruno Mars' first No. 1 credit, as he was a songwriter.)

After Right Round, Kesha signed to RCA Records and dropped her debut album Animal in 2010. It was an instant smash, finishing the year with the third-most digital downloads of any album. Timeless party anthem “TiK ToK,” the album’s lead single, is the third-best selling digital single in history with over 16 million sales. Kesha’s dominance in 2010 wasn’t done, though: She released the eight-track EP Cannibal at the end of the year, dropping yet another No. 1 single with “We R Who We R.” Her next full album came in 2012, and she delivered with the sixteen-song Warrior, which included three more Top 40 hits. She appeared on yet another No. 1 in 2013, the Pitbull collaboration “Timber.”
