Never before has any secular R&B artist recorded songs of a positive nature until a man by the name of Lyfe Jennings showed up on the scene. But he wasn't always a positive man. Born June 3, 1978, Lyfe grew up to end up in a ten-year jail sentence, learning the hard way on how to live. Born and bred in Toledo, Ohio, it was a big change for him and one that he was determined to stick with in a positive way, but not without some help from an iconic music artist named Erykah Badu. His talent, of course, flourished when he was released from jail as he ended up recording his own demo and earned recognition from Columbia Records for a contract to release his very own album in the year of 2004.Lyfe Jennings Tickets - The Music of Lyfe
His debut album was called Lyfe 268-192. The numbers signified his inmate number when he was incarcerated. Naturally, after that release, 2006 saw the follow-up entitled The Phoenix. Lyfe Change was released two years later, followed by his stated last album in 2010 with the name Sooner or Later. Aside from having that obvious R&B flair in his style, his gritty falsetto voice won so many listeners over. But what really stood out was his content. For instance: 'Statistics' was an anthem for women to stand up and not be a 'statistic' against men who are just trying to use them as sex objects. In other words, being individuals who deserve an honest relationship and not just a 'booty call.' 'Hypothetically' was about a couple fighting to survive a relationship along with a child.
