Modest is a pretty apt descriptor for the limited success achieved by Modest Mouse in its formative years. Though the band came together in 1993, its most surprising commercial success was achieved at the turn of the century with the release of "The Moon & Antarctica," their first album on Epic Records.
Modest Mouse began as a unit featuring Isaac Brock, Eric Judy and Jeremiah Green. Today Judy is out, and four other names are attached to the band – Joe Plummer, Tom Peloso, Jim Fairchild and Russell Higbee. Together they became rock stars after recording 2004's "Good News For People Who Love Bad News," which ultimately proved to be the band's big commercial breakthrough. It jumped to the top of the album charts and spawned the singles "Float On" and "Ocean Breathes Salty," selling over a million copies just as Modest Mouse was spilling into big arenas for a headline tour.
2007's "We Were Dead Before the Ship Sank" proved to be a title that was in no way indicative of its success. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard album charts, but the band has put out just one project since – 2009's "No One's First, and You're Next," a collection of outtakes and non-LP single sides.
Modest Mouse toured through 2012, and even debuted several new songs while on the road. But on June 6, 2013, the band canceled its UK/EU tour to focus on developing their new album, which still has no title or release date.
