North Carolina State Wolfpack Basketball Details

After the North Carolina State Wolfpack ended the 2016-2017 season with a conference record of 4-14 and an overall record of 15-17, the school instituted some changes for the future. First, the team will be led by new Coach Kevin Keatts and new assistant coaches A.W. Hamilton, James Johnson and Takayo Siddle. Keatts previously was the head coach at UNC Wilmington and made a large impact during his three years there, leading the team to their first conference championship in nine years and winning Conference Coach of the Year three seasons in a row. Soon after being hired, Keatts talked about his goal of bringing in some of the best recruits in the country. He and his staff succeeded by recruiting four-star point guard Lavar Batts. Batts averaged 23.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game in high school, and was one of the most coveted recruits in college basketball. His addition to the Wolfpack this upcoming season will help offset the loss of NBA draft pick point guard Dennis Smith Jr., who led the team in points, assists, and steals the previous season.

NC State was originally part of the Southern Conference, and joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1954. Since joining the ACC, the Wolfpack have won ten conference titles and two National Championships. Their most famous win was their 1983 NCAA Tournament 54-52 victory over Houston via a buzzer-dunk by Lorenzo Charles. The school is currently ranked 25th in total victories amid NCAA college basketball programs and has appeared in the NCAA Tournament 26 times.
