Sometimes plans change after you buy tickets. Maybe your schedule shifts, a family event comes up, or you simply can’t make the game anymore.

In most cases, ticket orders are final sale and fans can’t change their mind after making a purchase. But there is now one exception. For select eligible events, SeatGeek offers Refundable Tickets as an optional add-on during checkout.

If you added Refundable Tickets to an eligible order, you can cancel your entire order up to 48 hours before the event start time and get your money back on the original order.

Want to know how Refundable Tickets work, when they apply, and what to expect if you need to cancel? Here’s what to know.

What are Refundable Tickets on SeatGeek?

Refundable Tickets are an optional add-on available on select eligible events during the final review step of checkout. If the event qualifies, you’ll see the option before you complete your purchase, and the Refundable Tickets service charge will appear in your order summary.

This feature is designed for fans who want more flexibility in case life gets in the way. If you choose Refundable Tickets at checkout, you may be able to cancel your order later for any reason at all, as long as you do so at least 48 hours before the event starts. You don’t need to have a “good” reason or prove why you can’t attend. You can simply just request your refund and get your money back, no questions asked.

Let’s say you’re a big Dodgers fan and want to buy MLB tickets in June for a game against the rival Padres in late September, just in case the NL West race is still up in the air. It’s three months out, and it can be tough for anyone to 100% lock down a date that far in advance. So all you have to do is click the “Yes, I want to make my tickets refundable” option on the checkout page for 10% of your order. Then you’re able to get a refund on your order, no questions asked, if you need to cancel up to 48 hours before the event.

Another key thing to know up front is that Refundable Tickets have to be added during checkout. You can’t go back and add them after your purchase is complete, and you also can’t opt out later.

What events are Refundable Tickets available for?

Refundable Tickets are now live on all verified MLB and NFL listings, so fans shopping for baseball and football tickets could see the option at checkout.

If an event is eligible, you’ll see the option to make your tickets refundable during the final review step before you place your order. If you don’t see that option at checkout, the event or listing doesn’t qualify.

How to get your money back on SeatGeek through Refundable Tickets

If you bought Refundable Tickets and need to cancel your order, the process is straightforward. Unlike ticket “insurance,” you don’t need to file a claim, upload documentation, give a reason or wait for an approval decision. You simply request the refund from your SeatGeek account.

Here’s how it works:

1. Log in to your SeatGeek account and go to your Tickets page.

2. Select Refund tickets.

3. Confirm that you want to cancel your order.

4. Once confirmed, the cancellation can’t be reversed, and your refund will be processed to your original payment method.

After that, your canceled order will still appear in the Purchases tab of your account, where you can view any refund status updates.

Keep in mind that the refund applies to the full order only. Partial refunds are not available, which means you can’t return just one or two tickets from a larger order.

Additionally, the Refundable Tickets service charge is generally not refunded unless the event is officially canceled and covered by SeatGeek’s Buyer Guarantee. Otherwise, you will get your full purchase order refunded but not the service charge.

Do other ticket marketplaces offer Refundable Tickets?

No, which makes Refundable Tickets one of the clearest ways SeatGeek stands out.

Most major ticket marketplaces publicly center their protections around buyer guarantees, canceled-event refunds, or seller-backed issue resolution. SeatGeek goes a step further by giving eligible fans the option to make their tickets refundable at checkout, and that difference can really matter.

Instead of only helping when an event is canceled or there is a problem with the order, Refundable Tickets give buyers added flexibility for real-life situations where plans simply change.

That makes Refundable Tickets especially valuable for fans buying well in advance, when travel, work schedules, family obligations, or other commitments are more likely to shift.

What happens to my Refundable Tickets if the event is postponed or canceled?

If your event is postponed, your order can still be eligible for return up to 48 hours before the new event time once that new date is announced. The Refundable Tickets service charge, however, is not refundable for postponed events.

If the event is officially canceled, SeatGeek’s Buyer Guarantee applies. In that case, the Refundable Tickets service charge is refunded along with the rest of your order.

How long does a SeatGeek refund take for Refundable Tickets?

Once a refund is processed, it typically appears on your original payment method within 3 to 10 business days, depending on your bank or card provider. If it has been longer than that, SeatGeek recommends contacting support for help reviewing your order.

Why SeatGeek Refundable Tickets can be worth it

If you’re buying tickets far in advance, there’s always a chance that something could change before event day. That’s what makes SeatGeek Refundable Tickets such a valuable option for eligible orders.

Instead of being locked into your purchase no matter what happens, you get the added flexibility to cancel your full order up to 48 hours before the event if your plans change. For fans who want a little more peace of mind before checking out, that can make a big difference.

Not every event will qualify, and the Refundable Tickets service charge is separate from the refund itself, but for the right purchase, the extra flexibility can be well worth it.
